Self-Leadership

December 13, 2018 by Teresa McCammon 15 Comments

The power of personal influence. We learned a lot today. Terri’s quote ” You cannot lead anyone until you first learn to lead yourself.”
We all lead in one way or another.Either here at Phoenix or in our personal lives. Today we took a look at our own personal brand. We took a good look at who we feel we are and how others may see us. All this sure sends your mind in some deep thought. In a great way of course. What did you learn today that you can apply to invest in yourself?

Great class—the four steps of Self-Leadership
    1. Reflection
    2. Identification
    3. Goal Setting
    4. Congruency

If we get a little off at times, we can go back to these steps and get back on track!

I really enjoyed this class. All of the classes at PHCU encourage you to step out of your normal way of thinking to see things from a new point of view. Its easier to do those things when is comes to our work habits or other tasks we take on everyday. Its a little more difficult when you are looking inward and critiquing yourself. It makes you be very honest with yourself and the person you portray yourself as to others. I agree that when your outward appearance and your inner being are congruent it makes putting those actions into effect easier.

This was an amazing class and I feel blessed that I work for a company that invests so much time and energy into their employees. One of my favorite things about this class was “Focus Words” it really made me think about what words I wanted to focus on and make part of my daily routine. Self reflection isn’t always easy but it is necessary to be the best version of you that you can be.

This class has challenged me to look inward and decide what I am going to do differently moving forward to reach those goals of living out my brand daily with true character. I am changing behaviors/making action steps for Visionary, Marketer and Maybe Seeker. I have set dates to do certain steps to ensure I will achieve them and not overwhelm myself all at once. I have also shared these with an accountability partner that I can trust to lean on throughout the next year. Terri said that we cannot change everything at once but little steps for each one makes the difference. I will be writing in a journal daily with reflection throughout 2019 to hold myself accountable on reaching those goals. I am eager to challenge myself and move out of my comfort zone and grow personally and professionally. I look forward to 6 months – year from today to see where I am! Thank you for this class and investing in us – I really do appreciate it.

Self-Leadership! To me this class is one of the most beneficial classes we are offered at PHCU! Not only does it help with learning to lead your own life it gives us the tools to affectively lead others. One of my favorite parts of the class was working on our Mini Mes’, its a wonderful reflection tool and really helped me look at something I personally need to focus on for myself!!

I agree with Charmaine, the focus words is what really stood out to me. It is a great daily reminder to be the best you that you can be. My focus word is going to be present. I want to be more present in the moment instead of worried about whats on the agenda for tomorrow, next week, and so forth. Thank you Terri for another great class!

I love PCU classes! As shared above, I was really struck by Focus word and their use instead of New Years Resolutions. Posting a few focus words for the year at work, at home, in your planner, etc – and using those to improve different areas of your life seemed way more logical and realistic than traditional resolutions. I’ve started contemplating and praying over what my focus word/s should be for 2019! I’m excited to see where this new thought process takes me. Thank you Terri for inspiring us and being such an amazing example.

What a class! I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be putting steps in to place. The reflection portion of the class really hit a mark with me. Realizing your imperfections isn’t easy! This class really makes you stop and look at yourself! Enjoyed it lots! Thanks again Terri for another great day!

This class is so great to take a moment to reflect on yourself and personal growth rather than worrying about the day to day chaos in life. I think my favorite part of class was picking the behaviors needed to move toward your focus word. It is always good to have a plan in place to hold yourself accountable.

I really enjoyed this class. I love the Focus Words portion. I realized in this class that I need to slow down and listen to others more. I’m so proud to work for Phoenix that offers classes like these for employees to attend. Terri Tucker is awesome!

This class is the best PHCU class! Focus word in place and daily journaling started. I am super excited to pass the new information to the rest of my team!

I think a lot of us are on the same page with loving the Focus words. It really helped me reflect what is most important to me and how I can use these tools to be the best me, in my work life, as well as my personal life.

This class made me take some time to reflect on myself again and how I want to grow as a person. Like many others, the focus words had me thinking hard about what I should do to be the best me I can be! It’s comforting to know that if I ever stray from my path, I can reflect on the four steps of self-leadership to get myself back on track.

I was also reminded that I need to not be so hard on myself. When we buddied up & discussed what we can do to “bridge the gap” to our goals, my partner and good friend of several years pointed out that I have already been on track without even realizing it. I feel better about myself and my goals, and am so grateful to have been in the class!

This was an amazing class! There are very few times it feels like in the workplace that it is all about YOU and what YOU have to offer. I am excited to go into 2019 with my little “gingerbread man” and daily look at what I circled that I want to work on. You can’t lead anyone if you do not first lead yourself and that is what I am going to use to fuel my energy into this new year!

Another hit in this class was the use of Focus Words for 2019 and I am so excited to try this out this year. I recently picked out my 3 focus words for this year and I am excited to grow with them and look inward and have the best year yet!

    1. Reflection is a bout me. What is my part. Do I like the person looking back at me?
    2. Identification- me thinking about me and where I am at with where I want to be in my life. Bridging this gap was a new point of view when I took the class then and where I am at today is because of this identification and (goal setting #3.)
    4. Congruency changes my story.

Self Leadership taught me about goal setting and narrowing the gap. When my appearance is the same as my actions/being then I am congruent.
