Great leaders are great listeners, who know their best asset is the people they work with ~Richard Branson.
Our employees are our best resource. They know our clients best. Don’t we all feel valued when someone takes the time to listen?I know I do.
You can make an impact everyday to those around you. What are some things we can do in our day to show our co-workers or our clients they are valued?
When meeting anyone…co-worker or stranger, I think a genuine smile is the very best greeting. Follow that with a friendly ‘hello’ and not only ask “how are you today?” but take time to listen to the response. I know that’s a bad habit of mine, I ask how they are but then I just keep walking and don’t stop to listen to their answer. How rude of me…. I need to work on that !!!
I think a great way Phoenix values employees is by recognizing hard work through RAFE nominations and awards.
Absolutely, Jean – giving a smile costs us nothing and can make the difference in someone’s day. Some of our clients only have us to talk to. Our clients and coworkers deserve our full attention, and our Phoenix culture supports that we place people first. We make a difference every day.
I get all excited and goosebumpy when I read these responses to the blog. Great job everyone. Listening is an active process – not passive. It is also one of the greatest demonstrations of respect we can give another human being. To be truly listened to is like a breath of fresh mountain air. Be the Wind!
My mom always told me “You are who you hang out with.” This couldn’t be more true. In the quote Teresa posted above, it mentions that great leaders know their best asset is the people they work with. On our team, we make positivity, encouragement and teamwork intentional every day. 🙂 I’m thankful for the people I’m surrrounded by.
Simply saying “Thank you” is a great way to illustrate to our co-workers and clients that they are valued. Sending a thank you note or email can go a long way–It helps create that emotional linkage that we pursue to develop with our co-workers and clients.
I agree you have to listen to actually hear what someone is saying and to understand their needs!
I greatly appreciated the Effective Communications class taught by Terri in Springfield last week! As a hospice chaplain. I was reminded that an integral part of communication involves not only what we say, text, or type, but rather how our ability to listen greatly helps facilitate good communication as well. Appreciated the opportunity to attend!
I always look forward to these classes! I only got to sit in on part of the class and I am super excited to finish the rest of the class. I believe, that as a society, we have lost the art of communication. I tell my family, kids and Husband , to pick up the phone and call because most of the time text are not always clear. I hope to pass on what i learn , not only to my family, but to everyone i come in contact with!
I love the classes you can apply them to your everyday life, not just at work. What stood out to me was;looking at communication as marketing yourself meaning promoting, and selling yourself. People buy what they feel they need, or is useful to them. So when communicating I want to speak or email my message so that my listen see’s the benefits for them.
