Stand ups are going really well. We have done them on Getting into SHAPE, (spiritual-heart-ability-personality-experience), REACH, The Mission, The Axioms,
The LOVE series and Communication. The team is fully engaged as we meet for our Focus 15 Standups. This morning we drew popsicle sticks from a mason jar. I drew “gratitude” which was the exact stick I needed for turning 52 on a Monday..lol. Other sticks drawn were tolerance, integrity, faith, willingness and so on.
At first I thought the drawing of sticks wasn’t necessary. I look forward to drawing these little sticks especially when I am down or just plain unsociable. It does make me think before I talk, and I view what the stick says, and I put myself in the middle of that word. Mine today was “Trust”
It went quite well with the stand up theme. I do trust the people I work with. That is why I love it here. When going through the darkest valley there is a light that shines into my pathway. Showing me that it’s okay to take a step toward my goals. I’m not going to trip or fall. Even if I do these beautiful Ladies that I work with will be there to help me get up, dust my self off and walk with me. Trust Thank you GIna
The one thing I enjoy about the stand ups in the Home Health billing dept. Rydell checks in on us not just work wise but on use personally as well. Making sure everyone is doing ok and making sure no one is overwhelmed or needs any extra help. I makes you feel like a part of a team and your Supervisor really cares about you, and your are not just another employee.
I loved this class because it really challenged me personally to change how I communicate not only in my work life but my personal life as well. What stuck with me most from this class is the ” Phoenix Four to Soar”
1.Challenge yourself during decision making: I now make sure to get others views on something I may not be able to see for myself. This can change the decision in a big way because you are looking through the eyes of others not just your own.
2.Know what you want and need to communicate. This one is a BIG one for me. I tend to go in a wild and crazy circle when trying explain information to my bosses that doesn’t really need to be in the story. I now write down things that are most important in what I am trying to say.” I’m sure they appreciate this most”
3.Pause and lay down your own stuff. For me this means make sure that person knows you are listening to them and you are present in that moment with them.
4. Then Decide. Make sure you know what you want to say. Don’t just say something because you are trying to impress but speak truth and be respectful of others time.
Effective Communication was one I was really looking forward to! It gave me a lot of great tips! One thing I have made a more conscious effort of is proofreading! Reading what I’ve wrote or typed twice has become a great practice for me not only at work but in life!
Effective Communication to me is something that most of us can definitely work on. We talked about the reasons we need to constantly work on our communication. It improves teamwork as well as builds trust. It deepens our connections with others and enchances quality decision making as well as improves problem solving. This is what drives our culture! It is important to always listen for ideas and be open minded. In my many years of In Home I have found it is much better to always be kind and considerate! Loved this class
