MAY DAY! MAY DAY!

April 18, 2017 by Terri Tucker 18 Comments

We often hear those words, Mayday! Mayday! when some tragedy is upon us.  It is the international distress signal for SEND HELP NOW!

Well May Day – written as two separate words, is the first day of the month of May.  Its tradition centers on the giving of flowers. And it is not a distress call at all!  Quite the contrary.   Tradition states that as the month of April neared an end, people would gather flowers and candies and other goodies to put in baskets.  On May first they would hang the baskets on doors of friends and neighbors.  It was a way to welcome in a bright and beautiful season…a positive act of kindness.    It is a lost tradition. But I think we can bring it back at Phoenix.

I have a challenge for you.  Between now and May 1.  Send a flower to someone you want to give a “Pick Me Up” to – – someone you think is doing a great job or deserves a shout out.  Now I don’t mean a real flower.  Just post on this blog and add a click art flower with your story.  We will surely collect a whole bouquet of awesome stories to welcome in our 2017 May Day without distress!

I would like to give a flower to Gwen Beebe and Teresa McCammon for bringing a bit of the beach and a lot of sunshine to the recent In Services!

What are you going to add to the bouquet?

Sheri Mathis always picks me up when I’m down. She is our department’s cheerleader and always has our backs! She definitely deserves this flower! https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRAXh5wY8o1xVTuzYC9cvc53TkioyeI5IBCQJOSOKRzQAb6l4i3

My bouquet goes to Ursula Gorman who is quietly ‘getting the job done’.
Her position is not a high profile area so there’s not a lot of “praise and thank you’s”. I want to let her know that we appreciate the kind of supervisor she is – she tells us what we need to do and expects it to be done without always looking over our shoulder. Thanks Ursula

I had the privilege of meeting several new Phoenix recruits today who were excited to be assigned their clients and to get started providing care. Witnessing such wonderful, caring individuals joining our team and allowing those in leadership the opportunity to do what we do, brought much happiness to my day. I’d like to give all the caregivers and clinicians of Phoenix a flower of heartfelt gratitude.

I would like to give a handful of May flowers to Paul Money! He has always been such a kind voice on the other end of the line, when I have had IT problems. He has that touch of “Southern Charm” in his voice that always makes me smile, no matter what the issue may be. He has also spent time coming to our new O’Fallon MO office making sure that we are ready to open the doors. For all of this, I Thank You, Paul, and just wanted you to know that you are very much appreciated.

I would like to give a flower to Emily Pipes! In the midst of her own busy schedule, she is always willing to take a moment to answer any question I may have or proof read a graphic piece I may be working on. Not to mention the recruiting team she leads is so uplifting and can always be counted on for a good laugh on a crazy day!

I would like to give a flower to Cindy Foertsch. As the person that touches every single new hire, she works very hard to make sure they are getting what they need. She takes pride in her orientation classes and wants to make sure everything is going smoothly and our newest team members are enjoying themselves. I know Cindy doesn’t get enough “flowers” and she should be getting bouquets every week. Thank you for all you do. : )

Patty Brown! Here’s a flower for you! Thanks for always working hard for PDN Springfield, and making sure your nurses are taken care of. You have been a great help to me in payroll each and every week to ensure your nurses are getting paid correctly, and in a timely manner! Thank you!

She is always willing to jump in an help out wherever needed! Even if it has nothing to do with her job!

Joclynn Brown, Lin Flynn & Jake Wood!!!! These 3 are undoubtedly a few of the heroes around here. Since our Recruiting Team now shares the same work space with them, we’ve gotten to know some of the hardest working people in the building! They work hard to meet deadlines, support ALL of Phoenix, and most recently launched the new Care Wear/Scrub Stop store! Sometimes, it seems they work around the clock.
When we first moved back here, we were talking to Kim about raising the cubicle wall that separates our teams because of noise… lol. But now, we all celebrate each other’s birthdays, occasionally order lunch in together and, well, I suppose it just another example of the family atmosphere at Phoenix! #IChoosePhoenix #PhoenixPhanatics

I might be breaking the rules, but I want to give a second flower to Gwen Beebe. She trusted that I could step into a new role as Public Relations Representative and be successful. She has done nothing but guide me to grow and has been a listening ear when I need it. I couldn’t be more excited to grow and learn with her and the awesome team that we have!

Gwen and Emily both also saw potential in me as a recruiter! Gwen is a strong and courageous woman and she stands for what Phoenix culture is all about and I love that! She supports her team and encourages us to be who we are! Thanks Gwen for always being YOU!!
